How to Choose the Right Truck for Landscaping
As you work to make residential and commercial properties look beautiful, your truck is your partner in your job. Choosing the right truck can improve your productivity and efficiency while helping you make the world a lovelier place.
What Do You Need to Transport?
One of your first considerations in selecting a truck for your landscaping business is what it needs to transport. You’ll need to have plenty of room for your tools and equipment as well as space for mulch and topsoil. We have a wide range of Ford and RAM trucks like the F-250 and RAM 1500.
Along with the truck bed, you can bring along a trailer for wheelbarrows, sprayers, tractors, and other large equipment. Consider the towing capacity to ensure it can tow a big enough load. A chassis cab that can be upfitted as a dump truck or to carry rock, dirt, or other materials may also be important.
Do You Travel Alone or Work with a Crew?
If you work by yourself, you may only need a regular cab for your truck. On the other hand, a crew cab may be beneficial if have a staff or plan to hire workers in the future.
Another consideration for the cab space is how much paperwork you’ll need to do on the road. Will you fill out invoices and submit while on-site? Do you need to be able to look up products and place orders while working on a remote site? Wi-Fi connectivity could be critical if you want to get online from anywhere.
The cost of fuel can really eat into your profits with a truck. Big-size pickup trucks aren’t noted for being the most efficient models on the market. However, newer models are including a hybrid trim for improved efficiency.
You also have the option of selecting a smaller truck. While it won’t have the space or strength of a full-size model, it might be just right if you work mostly for residential customers.
Today’s vehicles are loaded with technology, but not all models are the same. Navigation may be standard on higher trims but only an option on the base model. You can get online with your truck to act as a Wi-Fi hotspot or connect your smartphone to gain quick access to customers or vendors on the go.
Keep working from anywhere with access to email, text messages, and more. Certain models have larger center consoles to store a laptop, making it easy to set up and work from anywhere. Trucks with wireless charging pads or USB ports are becoming the standard, but don’t assume a pickup will have everything you need.
In some cases, your preferred truck may be a van. You can work inside out of the weather while towing a trailer for your supplies.
